Ward 5 is home to growing families.
The Lewis Estates recreation centre will be a great addition to residents in Edmonton’s Westend, but it won’t have the capacity to keep up with the population growth. Terwilliegar recreation centre is beyond capacity and is less than 10 years old. Community leagues have filled the void by providing family-friendly activities and creating recreation sites within neighbourhoods.
Young families need space to play and learn. The Green Shack program is fantastic but some of our neighbourhoods are feeling strained in providing this program without enough resources.
The green spaces in our neighbourhoods need to be preserved and we need to ensure there is adequate funding for programming in libraries and community hubs.
As Councillor I will ensure that our families are supported and will ask the City for greater funding to community leagues to provide families activities within neighbourhoods.
