Parking and Speed Limits

A hard stance must be taken against speeding in school and park zones.  Enforcement must be stepped up to ensure the safety of children and adults. When neighbourhood renewal happens, the city must evaluate how they can better engineer the streets to better control speed in residential neighbourhoods.

Residential parking programmes around transit hubs need to be put into place to ensure that neighbourhoods do not become park and rides.  The transit hubs must have adequate parking for transit employees and riders.

As Councillor I will diligently work towards making our neighbourhoods as traffic safe as possible.

I find that all the ward 5 candidates have very little on their web platforms discussing the use of photo radar in this city. All of them have sections in their online platforms regarding lowering speed limits, etc. But nothing regarding the enforcement side. Photo radar needs to be reviewed in this city. It is being treated as another revenue source rather than something to improve safety. Tricia Velthuizen running in ward 4 has rightly called for a comprehensive freeze and review. I think the city should look east to what Sthrathcona County did.

Please ensure that park and ride is either free or unreserved. Century park is a failure because of the reserved spots and lack of free parking.
